An agent requests storage, finds providers, sets a condition, locks VIGI, receives evidence of execution, verifies it and releases payment — with no human in the loop, because the proof is objective.

The furthest layer from existing.

Nothing of the machine economy is built, and it cannot be built before the layers it composes. It is documented because it is the reason the others are shaped as they are: each was designed to be usable by software with no person present, which is a constraint that has to be applied early or not at all.

Data, Witness, Provenance, Escrow, VIGI.

Storage to hold the work, evidence to describe it, provenance to order it, escrow to pay for it, and a native unit to denominate it. None of these markets would ever be given authority over consensus — the economy runs on the chain’s guarantees and never becomes one of them.

Software cannot post a chargeback.

Machine-to-machine commerce has no recourse layer. An agent cannot call a bank, dispute a charge or sue a counterparty, so settlement has to be correct at the moment it happens. That means conditions demonstrable in software and value that physically cannot move until they are — which is what the layers below provide.

A root, not a marketplace.

VigiChain is not becoming a storage chain, an AI server, a cloud provider or a marketplace written into consensus. It provides the cryptographic and economic root those systems are built on. The moment a market is inside the rules everybody must run, the core stops being small enough to audit — and small enough to audit is the product.
